Kororaa LiveCD GPL Summary

The Kororaa Project has published their findings having to do with the reported GPL violation that resulted from distributing the non-GPL ATI and NVIDIA video drivers with their LiveCD.

In short, this all seems like too much bother for a Live CD. At this stage I will not be releasing the Kororaa Xgl Live CD 0.3, but will continue to make 0.2 available.

Puppy Linux 1.0.9 CE

TuxMachines.org has a review of the latest Puppy Linux. As always, lots of screenshots are included.

I found the menus chocked full of applications and utilities. There was a multitude of Puppy specific configuration utilities for just about everything from net connection, wireless, sound, modem, printer, and more.

Slax recently released version 5.1.4 of their amazing “pocket os” and since it had been almost a year since our last look, we thought we’d better find out what 5.1.4 was like. Much like its predecessor, it has a whole lot chocked into a small kde-based download. At 192 mb, is it worth the download?

SimplyMEPIS 3.4-3

Unix Review takes a look at SimplyMEPIS 3.4-3, starting with impressions of the LiveCD.

This time around, booting MEPIS was a much better experience. The user login screen was presented quickly, I logged in, and after a few disc whirs the desktop lay before me in all of its glorious KDE beauty and splendor, with stereo sound to boot.
