Unix Review takes a look at SimplyMEPIS 3.4-3, starting with impressions of the LiveCD.

This time around, booting MEPIS was a much better experience. The user login screen was presented quickly, I logged in, and after a few disc whirs the desktop lay before me in all of its glorious KDE beauty and splendor, with stereo sound to boot.

Wolvix Media Edition 1.0.4 Review

Tuxmachines.org put up a positive reivew of the latest Wolvix Media Edition with lots of screenshots. Overall, Wolvix Media Edition looks like a great distro to keep in mind when building a HTPC.

I’ve always been quite the fan of the Wolvix offerings, with each being better than the last. I’ve been testing Media Edition over the last few days and can report Wolven has done a remarkable job.

PCLinuxOS 0.93 “MiniME” Development Release

DistroWatch has announced PCLinuxOS 0.93 MiniME, a lightweight, PCLinuxOS based LiveCD. OSDir brings the eye candy with screenshots. With PCLinuxOS releasing a lightweight version, and Damn Small Linux recently coming out with a heavier version, is the future of Linux LiveCDs two-disc, heavy and lightweight releases? GoblinX, GRML, Knoppix, Mepis/MepisLite, SLAX SE/SLAX Popcorn, and Ubuntu/Xubuntu are a few others who already separate release versions into the two camps.

Stunning Linux Distro Continues Development

LXer has an interview with the main developer of ELive, a LiveCD based around the Enlightement desktop environment.

From first boot, Elive shows the promise of an excellent Linux distribution. The graphical presentation is nothing less than stunning. If you are a fan of the Enlightenment desktop, you really have to see this distro. If you have no idea of what I am talking about…you really have to see this distro.
