Symphony OS marches to a different drum
Linux.com reviews Symphony OS and its unique desktop.
Symphony OS is a GNU/Linux distribution designed to innovate from the ground up. Although originally based on Knoppix and now on Debian stable, it quickly differentiates itself from the bulk of distros by implementing the ideas articulated in a so-called grey paper on user interface design by Jason Spisak, one of the co-founders of Lycoris.
Dreamlinux 2.0 XGL Edition

Dreamlinux 2.0 Works was released on July 16 and this time there’s a kicker. This time it’s available in an XGL edition. Where they may not be the first to put out an XGL edition, I believe they are the first provide the advanced effects for the xfce4 destkop. Having already been quite impress with Dreamlinux in previous testing, Tuxmachines just had to check that out.

Ubuntu Linux 6.06 LTS Released
The final version of Dapper Drake has been released, and with it comes new LiveCDs for Ubuntu, Kubuntu, and Xubuntu. They include GUI hard drive installers on the desktop, and have been named “Desktop” CDs to differentiate themselves from the text installers.

I found the menus chocked full of applications and utilities. There was a multitude of Puppy specific configuration utilities for just about everything from net connection, wireless, sound, modem, printer, and more.
