Life’s too short for Linux, or so David Fearon thought until he needed an OS in a rush
This article from PC Pro has some pretty opinionated ideas about which OS is the best to get work done in, and while I don’t agree with many of them, the author does have some nice things to say about DSL and SLAX.
Kororaa LiveCD GPL Summary
The Kororaa Project has published their findings having to do with the reported GPL violation that resulted from distributing the non-GPL ATI and NVIDIA video drivers with their LiveCD.
In short, this all seems like too much bother for a Live CD. At this stage I will not be releasing the Kororaa Xgl Live CD 0.3, but will continue to make 0.2 available.

A quick look at the GParted LiveCD
Linux.com reviews the extremely useful GParted LiveCD.
Need a way to resize NTFS partitions, mirror disk images, or otherwise muck about with disk partitions — and don’t want to use a proprietary package like Partition Magic? If so, the GNOME Partition Editor (GParted) is an excellent open source tool for the task. The GParted team released the GParted live CD version 0.2.4-2 this month, so I decided it was a good time to take GParted for a spin.

Kororaa Accused of Violating GPL
Slashdot has news and comments on the current Kororaa LiveCD issues. The Kororaa project received an email stating they were in violation of the GPL by distributing their XGL LiveCD with NVIDIA and ATI binary drivers. Unfortunately, XGL does not work without these drivers, making the distributing of the CD without them pointless. I hope this is cleaned up, because they are not the only LiveCD distributing binary graphics drivers.

Slax recently released version 5.1.4 of their amazing “pocket os” and since it had been almost a year since our last look, we thought we’d better find out what 5.1.4 was like. Much like its predecessor, it has a whole lot chocked into a small kde-based download. At 192 mb, is it worth the download?
Giving desktop Linux a try
DesktopLinux.com has an interesting article about Linux on the desktop compared to Windows. The Linux talked about in the review, and screenshots, evolved from Knoppix.
I’ve seen a lot of rough edges polished off and features added as I continued to update my system, which started life as a Knoppix Live CD.
